Samsung Galaxy Watch9 Review UK 2026

The Samsung Galaxy Watch9 is Samsung's 2026 round Wear OS watch, in 40 mm and 44 mm, with Gemini on the wrist. Samsung's UK product page says you raise your wrist to talk to Gemini, and that the watch pairs with compatible Samsung Galaxy phones and other supported Android phones. It also says pairing with iPhones is not supported. On Amazon UK on 26 October 2026 the 40 mm Bluetooth Graphite, ASIN B0H3764RVN, was in stock at £349.00, sold by Amazon. The 44 mm Bluetooth Silver was £379.00. The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 was £649.00.

AIToys.co.uk selects and researches this page from Samsung's UK product page, Samsung's UK support notes, and the Amazon listings sold by Amazon. It is not a first-hand wear. There is no score. The wider shortlist is best AI smartwatches and fitness trackers UK 2026. A cheaper Samsung band with a smaller brief is the Galaxy Fit3 review.

It suits a UK Android user, especially a Galaxy phone owner, who wants a full smartwatch and Gemini on the wrist. It is a poor fit for iPhone, and a poor fit if you are buying it mainly for blood pressure or sleep apnoea without checking those features are switched on for your account.

What is new against the Watch8

Samsung's footnotes on the UK Watch9 page compare the battery with the Watch8. Typical capacity is 390 mAh on the 40 mm, which Samsung calls about 20% more than the Watch8 40 mm, and 445 mAh on the 44 mm, a smaller step up from the Watch8 44 mm. Battery life is still a lab pattern. Samsung says real life varies with settings and use. Raise to Talk, once enabled, can use more battery than leaving it off, because the watch is listening for the gesture.

The chip on the Amazon title is Snapdragon Wear Elite. Samsung's own replies on the UK page describe a brighter display, up to 3,000 nits, and a lighter case than the previous generation. Those are Samsung's comparisons. This page does not repeat them as an independent measurement. The practical difference from a Watch8 you already own is that chip, that battery, the brightness Samsung quotes, and Raise to Talk, which Samsung's footnote reserves in a way that matters: you enable it on Watch9, and the feature notes are written for this generation and the Ultra2.

Wear OS still means apps, Google services and a Play Store on the watch, within what Samsung and Google enable. It also means the phone in your pocket decides which health apps exist. Read the next sections before you treat "AI health suite" as one switch.

Gemini on the watch

Raise to Talk is the AI feature Samsung is selling. You turn it on in settings. A lift of the wrist starts Gemini, so you can ask without tapping. Samsung's footnote says only one assistant, Bixby or Gemini, can own that gesture. Gemini needs a compatible phone, an internet connection for many requests, and a Google account. Samsung says check responses. Replies can be wrong. They are not medical advice.

Samsung describes the assistant as a way to handle messages, reminders and information from connected apps, and to reach SmartThings devices where those are set up. If you connect Gmail or Calendar, Gemini can see what those permissions allow. That is the privacy section below, and it is a reason to connect only the apps you actually want read aloud on a bus.

Samsung also warns that the gesture can start Gemini when you did not mean to, because the watch is sensing the arm. Turn the feature off if that happens in meetings. Bixby remains the Samsung assistant, with UK English in the language list Samsung printed for September 2026, on supported Galaxy phones. You pick one wake assistant, not both.

AI guidance is general wellness information when it touches health, and ordinary assistant output when it touches your calendar. Either way, check it. Do not change medication because a wrist assistant summarised a number.

Health features and UK availability

Samsung's UK page lists a health set that needs reading footnote by footnote. The short version: wellness tools are described for Android phones. The regulated-style tools are narrower, and some are not confirmed for the UK on the page itself.

Vitals need Android 13 or later, Samsung Health 7.0 or later, a Samsung account, and at least seven nights of sleep with the watch worn. Samsung says Vitals are for wellness only, not for diagnosis or treatment.

Energy Score needs Android 13, a recent Samsung Health, and a Samsung account. Samsung says it is not for diagnosis. Sleep coaching needs several days of sleep data, including a work day and a day off, and is for general wellness and fitness, not for diagnosing a sleep disorder.

Sleep apnoea is the one to slow down on. The marketing line on the UK page mentions FDA in the feature name area. The footnote says the feature is currently available in some selected countries only, that it is not for people who are pregnant or already diagnosed, that it is for ages 22 and over, and that it is not intended for detection, diagnosis or treatment. It needs Android 13 or later and enough nights of data. Check UK availability in Samsung Health before you rely on it. A US clearance is not, by itself, a UK go-ahead. If the tile is missing, the watch has not failed. The feature is not offered to you.

Blood pressure on Samsung's page uses the Samsung Health Monitor app and needs a cuff calibration every four weeks. Samsung says availability varies by country because of medical-device registration, and that the feature works on watches and phones bought in countries where the service is available. It is not for under-22s, and Samsung says it is not for diagnosing hypertension. Measure at rest, not after a workout, a cigarette or a drink, on Samsung's instructions. Check UK availability. This is not the same product as the Huawei Watch D3, which uses an airbag in the strap and which Huawei describes as CE-MDR certified for specified blood pressure measurements.

ECG and irregular rhythm tools, where Samsung offers them, go through Samsung Health Monitor. Samsung's UK support page says that app is currently only available on Samsung Galaxy phones. A Pixel or another Android phone may run Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, and still lack the monitor app. iPhone is out entirely.

None of the wellness scores above make the watch a medical device. Speak to your GP about symptoms. Do not change treatment from a watch card.

Watch9 and Ultra2

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the larger, tougher case with the same generation of software. Samsung's news material treats Raise to Talk and the health suite as shared. The Amazon UK listing checked here is the 47 mm LTE Titanium Grey, ASIN B0H36YM1ZW, at £649.00, in stock, sold by Amazon, on 26 October 2026. LTE means a mobile plan if you want the watch online without the phone. The £349 Watch9 in this review is the Bluetooth model. Add a plan only if you need the watch alone.

£300 is a lot for case size and LTE. Buy the Ultra2 if you want that case and a cellular watch. Buy the Watch9 if you want Gemini and the health app on a Galaxy phone and you will keep the phone nearby. The 40 mm Cream Bluetooth model, B0H3746JDX, was also £349.00 and in stock. This page does not have a separate Amazon image for Cream. Choose it on the product page if you want that colour.

Avoid imported and renewed Watch9 listings if you want the UK warranty Samsung prints on the Amazon title ("UK Version" on the Graphite model). This page only links the ASINs above.

Account, data and privacy

You need a Samsung account for Samsung Health, and a Google account for Gemini and Wear OS. The watch syncs activity, heart rate, sleep and workouts to Samsung Health. Gemini, once Raise to Talk is on, sends your questions to Google. If you grant Gmail, Calendar or other apps, the assistant can use those connections. Samsung says to check replies. Review permissions in the Google account and disconnect anything you would not want summarised out loud.

Samsung Health Monitor data, if you use ECG or blood pressure where they are enabled, is more sensitive than step counts. Keep that on a Galaxy phone you control, and read Samsung's privacy notice for retention. Family sharing, if you turn it on, is a separate decision.

The UK smart device privacy guide covers passwords and recovery. Use a unique Samsung password and a unique Google password. The watch is only as private as those two accounts.

AI guidance is general wellness information, not medical advice. It can be wrong. The sleep and energy scores are wellness scores even when Gemini never speaks.

FAQ

Does the Galaxy Watch9 work with an iPhone?

No. Samsung's UK page says pairing with iPhones or tablets is not supported. You need a compatible Android phone. Samsung Health Monitor, for ECG and blood pressure where those features exist, is currently only on Samsung Galaxy phones.

What is Gemini Raise to Talk?

A setting on the Watch9 and Ultra2. After you enable it, lifting your wrist can start Gemini. Samsung says check the replies, warns that battery use can rise, and warns that the gesture can trigger by accident. Only one of Bixby or Gemini can own the wake gesture.

Is the sleep apnoea feature available in the UK?

Check Samsung Health. Samsung says the feature is only in selected countries, is not for diagnosis or treatment, and is not for pregnancy or an existing diagnosis. The UK page mentions FDA in the feature marketing. That is not the same as a confirmed UK switch. If the tile is absent, do not assume a software update is late.

Can it measure blood pressure?

Only where Samsung has registered the feature, on a watch and phone bought in a served country, through Samsung Health Monitor, with a cuff calibration every four weeks. Samsung says it is not for diagnosing hypertension. Check UK availability. It is not a substitute for the cuff your GP recommends.

How does it compare with the Ultra2?

Same generation of Gemini and health software, on Samsung's materials. The Ultra2 listing here is a 47 mm LTE titanium model at £649, against £349 for the 40 mm Bluetooth Watch9. Buy the Ultra2 for the case and cellular. Buy the Watch9 if the phone in your pocket is doing the connection.
