What you are actually buying
The carton is a two-part system. In the UK the "Complete" name means the full self-emptying, self-cleaning station, not a basic charging puck.
The robot is a circular chassis with a retractable DToF tower (VersaLift), a front camera, dual counter-rotating brushes (HyperStream DuoBrush), an extending side brush, and two spinning microfibre pads. Dreame rates suction at 20,000 Pa. VersaLift lowers the body to about 89 mm so it can pass under low sofas and bed frames that stop a taller turret. One pad is the "Mop Extend" arm that swings out toward edges. Both pads can lift about 10.5 mm when carpet is detected, and they can be left at the dock for a vacuum-only run.
The station is why it costs this much. Dreame specifies hot-water mop washing up to 80°C, detergent dispensing, hot-air drying, and self-empty into a bag. Published tank sizes on the full model are about 4.5 litres clean and 4 litres dirty. The dust bag is about 3.2 litres, with a manufacturer line of up to 100 days between bag changes. Treat that interval as Dreame's figure. Pets and wet mopping change how often you empty bags and tanks.

The station: what the dock is for
Without the base, an X50 is another mop-vac you still rinse by hand. With it, you send the job, let it dock, and leave the wet pads and the bin to the cabinet.
- Self-emptying into the 3.2 litre bag. The "up to 100 days" line is Dreame's, not a promise for a shedding dog.
- Mop wash and dry: hot water, detergent, then hot air, so you are not parking a damp cloth for days.
- Water tanks: you still lift them. Clean water goes in, dirty water comes out. No plumbing.
- Detergent and scale inhibitor: Dreame sells this as useful in hard-water areas, which covers a lot of the UK. Refills are a running cost.
Owner reports still mention topping up clean water, emptying dirty water, and buying bags, pads and solution. The dock removes the worst weekly faff, not the consumables.

ProLeap: thresholds, not stairs
ProLeap is the headline. Dreame's published limits, not an AIToys measurement:
- A single step up to about 4.2 cm
- Combined obstacles up to about 6 cm
- Door strips, slight level changes between rooms, and some rug edges
What it does not do: climb a standard UK staircase. Typical domestic steps are about 17 to 21 cm. Think of ProLeap as a threshold-crosser. Older UK houses with raised wooden or stone strips between rooms are the use case Dreame is selling. A level open-plan flat gets less from the legs.
The system uses the front camera as well as the DToF sensor. Dreame's own behaviour is a headlight in low light. If that light is off, or the room is very dark, threshold detection is less reliable in owner reports. Leave lights on for a ProLeap run.
Vacuuming and the DuoBrush
20,000 Pa is Dreame's suction headline for crumbs, fine dust and pet hair on hard floors and low-to-medium pile. This page stays on the X50.
HyperStream DuoBrush is two counter-rotating rollers, a bristled rubber brush and a TPU brush, sold as a way to stop hair wrapping the bar. Owner reports are mostly positive for pet hair and long human hair. Very long hair can still need a pull-through. The side brush can swing out at edges. That is Dreame's corner claim. Mopping
The pads spin. Dreame quotes up to 80°C for the dock wash, plus detergent. Owner reports put dried tea, light sticky film and ordinary kitchen dirt in the useful column. A baked-on spill is still a human job.
The extending pad is aimed at edges, including the gap beside a fridge or washing machine. Carpet detection is meant to lift the pads about 10.5 mm, and you can leave the pads at the dock for a vacuum-only run. Owner reports say the lift usually works, and that carpet detection can misfire. Mark anything precious as a no-mop zone for the first week.
What the AI actually does
Dreame pairs a front AI RGB camera with 3D structured light. Dreame says this recognises up to 200 object types, including pet waste, and steers around them. The 200 figure is from Dreame's own lab. The spec line is "AI RGB + 3D structured light", and the manual also labels an AI HD camera and an AI IR camera. In the Dreamehome app, Dreame documents a Pet-Finding Mode that looks for your pet and takes a photo, plus options for pet bowls and litter trays so you can avoid them or clean round them. There is built-in "Ok, Dreame" voice control, and Dreame also lists Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.
The camera features mean images of your home are processed, and pet photos are stored in Dreame's cloud. Dreame cites a TÜV SÜD check against ETSI EN 303 645 for remote pet monitoring. Read the app permissions and turn off the camera features you do not want.
Navigation, app and privacy
Mapping is DToF. One full run builds the plan, then you name rooms, draw zones and set schedules in the app (iOS and Android). Suction steps run from Quiet through Standard, Strong and Turbo to MAX. Water flow has several wetness levels. Owner reports often call that list longer than a household needs, and the app busier than a simple Roomba-style layout. After the map exists, day-to-day use is a schedule.
The front camera is advertised at about 200 obstacle types, including cables, shoes and pet waste. That figure is Dreame's. Owner reports are stronger on shoes and chunky objects than on thin dark cables. Pick up obvious hazards, including pet mess, before the first maps. A light ring on the tower changes colour with mode. That is a status light.
Privacy: the robot stores a floor plan, uses a front camera, and needs an account. Read Dreame's privacy policy and the app permissions before the first map. If the house rule is no maps on the network, skip this category.

Headline suction and the legs are why people shortlist the X50. They are not a lab ranking from this site.
